Fencing for all levels

We are now offering all classes including Introduction by private lesson, Beginner, Intermediate, Girls, Adult and our competitive programs Pre-elite and Elite.

We start ALL new fencers with private lessons which are one on one lessons with a professional instructor.  The lessons are 30 minutes each.  We offer the Introductory package which includes 4 private lessons, 30 minutes each, as well as use of our equipment for the lessons, and a trial group class.  The lessons teach the basics needed to start fencing and to join group classes.  The cost of this program is $185 kids/$190 adults.

At the completion of the Introductory package, fencers usually join a group class but are strongly encouraged to continue private lessons.  Use of club equipment is for the activities in the Introductory package only.  After the package is complete we expect students to purchase some items of equipment, which is designated by the coach.  We have most items in stock and can help get the right items and sizes.  Please see our rates page for prices for continuing programs.

Renaissance Fencing Club in Troy will have three fencers competing at the Cadet (under 17) World Championships in April in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  Luao Yang (Bloomfield Hills), Jeidus DeSeranno (Bloomfield Hills) and Adeline Senic (Royal Oak) all started fencing together eight years ago at Renaissance Fencing Club under head foil coach Anatolie Senic.  The local fencing club has dominated the region in the last ten years, winning more regional patches than any other club and finishing in the top three in the United States in the medal count for National competitions.  However this is the first time that the club has qualified fencers to the cadet world championships.

Team selection was based on point standings compiled from their best national and international competitions - the trio competed at five national competitions, four international cadet (under 17) competitions, and a varying number of Junior (under 20) world cups.  Stand out achievements of the season for Yang include his Gold medal at the Nuremberg Cadet World Cup and Silver at the Manchester Cadet World Cup as well as his Silver medal at the Bangkok Junior world cup.  DeSerannos highlights include his Silver medal at the Cadet World Cup in Cabries, and his Silver medal at the Aix-en-provence Junior World Cup.  Adeline Senic took honors by placing 5th at the Cadet world cups in Poznan and Manchester and winning the Bronze medal at the European Championships in Naples.

Renaissance Fencing Club was founded in 1996 and has more than 200 members.  Students start as young as five and start competing in the 8 and under regional categories.  The club has several students hoping to follow in the footsteps of the trio including five fencers who won medals at the North American Cup in Portland earlier this month.  Lucas Senic won the renown International Marathon competition in Paris in February and the bronze at the North American Cup. Sophie Hu won the bronze in the Y10 women’s event, while Leander DeSeranno nabbed the silver in the Y10 men’s competition.

Yang, DeSeranno, and Senic will travel to Riyadh on April 9th and compete on the 12th.  The club will host a congratulatory dinner for their members to thank the fencing community for their support and to celebrate the achievement.
