RFC Fencers Earn Seven Medals at Summer Nationals

Renaissance Fencing Club won 7 medals at July's National Championships including two gold medals making our club the third in the nation for the medal count!

Jeidus Deseranno (Grosse Pointe) took the Gold medal in the Y10 Men’s Foil event comprised of 154 fencers. Three of his teammates also earned national points: Luao Yang (Bloomfield Township - 17th), Bailey Beckford (Detroit - 22nd), and Ethan Liu (Ann Arbor 27th). Deseranno and Yang finished the season ranked 1st and 4th in the country.

Ann Marsh-Senic (Royal Oak) won the Gold medal in the Vet 40 Women’s Foil event. This is the three-time Olympian's sixth Gold medal (2012 - 2016) in the event.

Teammates Michael Cho (Farmington Hills) and Nathan Ritter (Troy) placed 5th and 7th in the vet 40 men’s foil.

Lucia Procopio (Royal Oak) took the Bronze medal in the Division 2 Women’s Foil in a field of 172 competitors

In Y12 Women’s Foil Adeline Senic (Royal Oak) and Sydney Upton (Troy) both picked up national points by placing 34th and 53rd respectively in the field of 163.

 

Y12 Men’s Foil featured Deseranno placing seventh in a field of 275 competitors. Yang also earned national points placing 25th as well as Liam Reeves (Grosse Pointe) who finished 42nd. 

 

In Y14 Men’s Foil Deseranno again earned a spot in the top 8 with a 7th place finish out of 335 participants.

 

In Y12 Men’s Sabre, Nicholas Wang picked up some national points by placing 52nd of 196.  His younger teammate Shayan Siddiqui picked up his first national points in Y10 Men’s Sabre by breaking into the top 32 and ending 29th of 108.

Graduating senior Gabrielle Hirsch (Huntington Woods) suffered from a poor pool performance and was seeded 112nd but defeated the number seven seed in her first elimination match and won her next two elimination bouts before losing to make the eight, placing in the top 16 of 157 fencers.

 

Miranda Freedman (Grosse Pointe) placed 22nd in the Division 1 Women’s Foil event to move her into the 13th ranking in the United States in the Under 17 category.

Anatolie Senic (Royal Oak) and Zack Kaiser (Livonia) both earned national points by placing 37th and 47th in the field of 173 in division 1 men’s foil.
